Dr. Seuss Birthday 2013

The celebs came dressed
in their Red Carpet best
all ready to celebrate the Seuss!
Yet the weather turned yucky
so we grabbed our Seuss ducky
and headed home like a goose on the loose.

Before the celebs left to take cover
they squeezed in a bit of Seuss fun.

we enjoyed before we had to run!

Dr. Seuss Birthday 2011

The Celebrities honor Seuss with his very own Star on Harkreader-wood Blvd! On February 4, 2011, the Harkreader Hills celebrities added the Dr.Seuss star to their Walk of Fame. Dr. Seuss has been an inspiration to all the celebrities. They learned their first rhyming words with Seuss's Wockets in Pockets, and learned to try new and interesting things with Green Eggs and Ham. They give Seuss all the credit for their math skills with books like Hunches and Bunches and 10 Apples on Top. To honor this special occasion the celebrities wore their best Seuss-sational Synonym attire. The red carpet fashions were designed by Seuss's best designer--Little Cindy Lou Who. Check out all the paparazzi footage below.

"MyOn Reading Lights up your Mind"...was the theme of our Winter Break REACH reading contest. Students who have internet access at home, were encouraged to log on to myOn reader and read over their winter break. We had 50 students who took time over their break to do some online reading! WOW! Their reading was celebrated with a giant cookie and some cocoa!

Exploring Penguins with Thinglink!

Yes, I am officially obsessed with Thinglink! I just made this one all about penguins. Our paraprofessionals will begin taking iPads into the classrooms for Tier 2 intervention. The can use this Thinglink to engage students in research with fact/opinion, cause/effect, non-fiction text features, citing evidence, etc... I am excited for the students to learn more about penguins in such a fun and exploratory way!

New Ideas for a New Year!

My favorite sessions: Lester Laminack

Happy New Year! I am looking forward to my second half of the school year in my new position. It has been the most wonderful first half and I feel so blessed to be at Guild! As a perk to this new position, in December, I had the fabulous opportunity to attend the East Tennessee Title I Conference in Gatlinburg, TN. I was able to attend the conference with other Reading Specialist in our county. It was such a valuable learning experience and I gained a wealth of ideas from the conference presenters, as well as, the wonderful ladies who joined in! I tried to condense all the resources and takeaways into the following newsletter. Take a read, print and share, and even click on the embedded links to resources.
