Insta-cramming for TCAP

The REACH students are busily working to improve their reading and testing taking skills in preparation for TCAP. While we are still doing authentic reading and writing, we have begun to work in some "insta-cram" sessions to ensure we are as prepared as possible for the big test!
 We are using the Crosswalk Coach Plus books to focus on the testing terminology and format. Students receive direct support on the focused skill and complete the practice problems. Then students use the response cards to show their answer. It is important for the students to verbalize why they made their selection so they use the response stem-because...-to share their thinking.
Student motivation has such a huge impact on their progress and performance. Students have an Insta-cram TCAP point collector. They earn points for every question they answer correctly. After the student earns 50 points, they turn in their point collector for a "gift card" to the GES Cafeteria to purchase a sweet treat or extra snack item. In addition, student have their Insta-cram pho-phone displayed in the classroom. For every 50 points they earn, they add a "like" (thumbs up) sticker to their iphone.
